At BeYouthful, we pride ourselves with natural and organic products. However, we do like to keep up with all of the various beauty treatments that are out there. Here is one that focuses on an area that unfortunately a lot of people tend to neglect when it comes to skin care.

Do You know About the Nefertiti Lift?

Have you heard about the Nefertiti Lift? Well, to give you a clue, it has something to do with your neck and a little something called Botulinum Toxin

What is Botulinum Toxin

Basically, Botulinum Toxin is a by-product extracted from bacteria and is then carefully developed in a laboratory. An example of this is Dysport, however, you are probably more familiar with the our second example, Botox.

“Botulinum toxin works by relaxing the muscle itself so that you cannotactively use the muscle. This means that the skinon top of it will not fold as much, and wrinklesand lines will be less evident. It will also stop themfrom forming as much in the future.”

  • Dr Cobus van Niekerk, President of the Aesthetic and Anti-Aging Medicine Society of South Africa, and owner of Wellnessthetics Weltevredenpark and Sundowner

Now, Botulinum Toxin injectables are completely safe as long as administered by a licensed doctor and practitioner.

Your Aging Neck

Just as your face may get wrinkles as you get older, you neck may get jowls. But to really understand this better, let’s dig deeper and look at our facial muscles. Of course, your facial muscles plan a very important role when it comes to facial aging. Let’s break them down a bit. First, let’s focus on your elevator muscles. There are found in the middle of your face. And when these muscles are active, they actually give the lower part of your face a more lifted look. Smile, and there you have it.

Now, there are also the depressor muscles, which in return do quite the opposite. Instead of lifting, these muscles make your lower face drop. And as you get older, these tend to get more and more active. Notably, the platysma is the depressor muscle that makes your jawline seem a bit more droopy and less defined. So, add the loss of collagen and elastin and you may end up with jowls and saggy skin.

The Nefertiti Lift

The Nefertiti Lift is basically used to address a jowls and or a sagging skin found on the neck. Botulinum toxin is injected to help relax the platysma muscle thus “paralyzing” it, so to speak. And by decreasing this activity of this depressor muscle, the activity of your elevator muscles will then increase giving you a more lifted jawline and an all-around smoother neck.

Unlike other treatments, the Nefertiti Lift lasts for only about three months, which could be a good thing as if you are not happy with it, it’s not permanent, and on the flip side, if you do like how it looks, you will have to keep on going back quarterly for maintenance.
