Rosehip Oil For Face : Adding Rosehip Oil To Your Skincare Routine

Posted by Vida Mercado on

Whether you are building up your skincare routine or if you simply want to add to one that has already been tried and tested, here is one product that you should consider: rosehip oil for face care. You see, rosehip oil has a whole lot to offer.

Rosehip Oil Hydrates and Moisturizes

One thing you should know about rosehip oil is that it is a dry oil, which may seem like it’s the exact opposite of hydrating and moisturizing. But that is not the case. What dry oil basically means is that it is very easily absorbed by the skin. So it actually does a really great job of hydrating and moisturizing without leaving you with an oily or greasy feel. The second thing you should know is that rosehip oil is a great source of linoleic acid, which actually locks in the moisture. Double win.

Rosehip Oil Smoothens and Brightens Skin

Another great ingredient found in rosehip oil is Vitamin A, which is actually a really good retinol. In case you don’t know, this acts as a good exfoliant, which sloughs off dead skin cells leaving your skin smooth to touch while at the same time making way for new cells to grow. This will give you younger looking skin with an all-around brighter glow.

  • Do note though that because of this, it is not advisable to mix Rosehip Oil with a retinol. Best to choose one or the other. Remember, you do not want to go overboard with retinol.

Rosehip Oil Increases Collagen Production

Aside from Vitamin A, rosehip oil is also a good source of Vitamin C. And when the two come together, collagen production has been known to increase. Of course, this will have an anti-aging effect leaving you with softer and more supple skin. But other than boosting collagen production, Rosehip Oil actually helps prevent the loss of it as by fighting against the production of MMP-1, an enzyme that breaks down collagen. This in return leads to fewer not so fine lines and wrinkles as well.

Rosehip Oil Protects Your Skin From Sun Damage

Rosehip Oil is a great source of antioxidants. And as we all know, antioxidants = anti-aging. Antioxidants also help fight off those nasty UV rays that unfortunately we are exposed to every single day aka sun damage.

Rosehip Oil For Face: Mixing and Matching

Now, if you have already established a go-to skincare routine, here are a couple of products that do very well with rosehip oil:

Moisturizer

Rosehip oil is great to pear with your regular moisturizer as it provides an extra layer and helps lock it in. This is especially great if you are dealing with dry skin or dry patches. Now, if you are using a water-based moisturizer, you can apply rosehip oil after. But if your moisturizer is more on the thick side, then apply the rosehip oil first.

Vitamin C Serum

Aside from helping keep your skin hydrated, vitamin C serums have been known to help brighten the skin, fade acne and dark spots, and even increase the production of collagen. When using both a vitamin C serum and rosehip oil, you want to go in with the serum first and then the rosehip oil. Another way would be to use them separately—one in your morning routine and the other at night.

    Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is yet another hydrating product. There are no known adverse effects of using this along with rosehip oil. As for placement, you want to apply your rosehip oil last as to really seal in all the good stuff.

      Niacinamide

Niacinamide is definitely a skincare superstar. Basically, this boost the production of ceramides, which play a key role for the skin barrier. Having a strong skin barrier means that it locks in your moisture longer and protects skin from outside elements. Naicinamide also helps even out skin tone and regulate the production of sebum. Rosehip oil goes on last.

        Vitamin E

You can never go wrong with vitamin E, a great antioxidant which means all around anti-aging. It also has great anti-inflammatory properties, too, which fight off oxidative damage. Mixing it with rosehip oil is a win win for your skin.
