Why You Should Use Almond Milk In Green Smoothies

Almond Milk In Green SmoothiesGreen smoothies are a great way to...errrr well, get your greens. But they are a lot more besides that. For instance, you can get more protein into your diet by adding soft silken tofu as a base for your smoothie. But some people don't like the taste of tofu. A delicious alternative to tofu as your base ingredient is Almond milk. Almond milk gives your green smoothie a nutty taste...no surprise there I guess but it's a subtle taste that doesn't overpower the other ingredients in the drink. Some people say it tastes a bit like marzipan but without the sweetness that is usually associated with marzipan. After all, almond milk has no sugar in it which is another good thing if you have been following our series of articles on how sugar is pretty bad for you. It's simply distilled water passed through almond meal. Although you don't have to make it yourself these days as you'll find it in most supermarkets. Here are a few reasons why you want to try a bit of almond milk in your next smoothie or any drink for that matter. Substitute it for milk in your coffee or tea or on your breakfast cereal. Almonds, and the milk created by it, have numerous health benefits that can be enjoyed by people suffering from heart disorders, constipation, impotency, diabetes, respiratory disorders, and coughs. The nut is packed with nutrients. Crunch a few of the nuts or enjoy the milk and you'll get healthy doses of Vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, iron and phosphorous. You will also get a shot of copper, zinc, niacin and selenium. Many of these minerals and vitamins are great for the skin and anti-aging. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can help to keep skin looking younger. Selenium and niacin are also thought to help keep you younger at a cellular level by neutralizing free radical damage.
