Just when you think you’ve heard it all, there is always a new so called “miracle cream” to help slow down the clock and leave you with skin as smooth as a baby’s behind. Well, from Koreans to Katie, snail slime seems to be it.
The not so secret from the South (South Korea, that is) has made it’s way to New York right into actress Katie Holmes’ regular beauty routine. Look magazine was actually able to get the inside scoop on the slime- well, not from Katie herself, but from a friend of the film star.
The friend told Look magazine: 'Last year was hard for Katie. She knows she has got a lot of catching up to do in terms of her career and is trying anything she can to stay looking her best.
'A friend recommended she used snail gel and she is really happy with how smooth her skin looks.'
More On The Mucin
Let’s get right down to the nitty gritty of this coveted glop.
Snail slime - or, technically, Helix Aspersa Müller Glycoconjugates - is a complex mix of proteins, glycolic acids and elastin that nature developed as a way to protect snail skin from damage of rocks, twigs, and other rough surfaces; infection, and UV rays.
But What Can This Goo Do For You?
Although some still remain skeptical, slathering on products with the slime has been believed to have some great benefits.
- Faster cell regeneration
- Boosts the healing process
- Reduces blemishes
- Prevents pimples
- It’s an amazing moisturizer (hydrates both the inner and outer layers)
- Speeds up the production of collagen and elastin
Basically, you are supposed to have softer, smoother, more supple younger looking skin as a result. Great for you right? The secretion can really speed up a lot of skin related processes that have become "sluggish" over the years, but what about the minute meager mollusks?
Sorry For The Snails? Don’t Be.
Well, it’s not like the people behind the products are crushing the goo right out of them and their tiny little shells. These mucin producing citters are kept alive and are subjected to safe mechanical stress to extract the sought after slime.
So really, you will be slathering on what they leave when they slither.
Great For Kate, But What About You?
Celeb beauty secrets can really do wonders for your skin, but a lot may leave you wondering where the heck all your money went. Well, you don’t have to live in the lap of luxury to give these goo products a go. And I’m not saying that you should collect snails right out of your back yard either.
Of course, there are those high end products on the shelves just as there are ones that cater to the masses.
So what do you think about snail based skin care? Rise and slime? Or Es-Car-Gross?
