Is No ‘Poo for You?

[caption id="attachment_2906" align="alignleft" width="207"]No 'Poo Commercially made shampoo was only available from the turn of the 20th century.[/caption] To shampoo or not to shampoo, that is the question. Well, when it comes to the state of your strands, there are a lot of hair care extraordinaires that believe “No ‘Poo” is best for you.

No ‘Poo?

Now, whether you’ve guessed it or not, No ‘Poo means no shampoo, the same goes for conditioner too. Yep, that’s right. But No ‘Poo does not necessarily mean no washing, you’re just ditching store bought brands for a safer and healthier (and cheaper!) alternative- Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar. But before we get into that, let’s focus on why No ‘Poo id good for you, by focusing on why shampoo is not.

The Vicious Shampoo Cycle

Let’s keep things short and sweet, shall we? So, why do you shampoo your hair? Basically because it’s oily. Why is your hair oily? Because you use shampoo. You see, your hair naturally produces oil, right? And shampoo strips that natural oil away. So naturally, kind of like your strands survival reflex, you hair will then produce double the amount of oil it naturally should. Think about your hair, unwashed, for a day. Heck, I’m sure you’ve done this before. Oily, isn’t it? The proof is in the pudding. So, the more you strip the oils away with shampoo, the more oil is produced. As for conditioner, it’s actually quite funny. You strip your hair of natural oils only to try replace them and moisturize with conditioner. But remember, no amount of conditioner can compare to what it naturally there.

What To Wash With

As mentioned earlier, No ‘Poo advocates wash their hair with Baking Soda And Apple Cider Vinegar. Baking Soda as shampoo and Apple Cider Vinegar as conditioner.

Baking Soda “Shampoo”

1 Tablespoon Of Baking Soda : 1 Cup Of Warm Water

Mix together, massage on to your scalp, then run from root to tip. Let it sit for a good minute or so, this is the perfect time to soap and scrub away, then rinse off.

Apple Cider “Conditioner”

1 Tablespoon Of Apple Cider Vinegar : 1 Cup Of Warm Water

It’s pretty much the same banana. Mix, massage, leave, then rinse.

The smell might not be as pleasant as you slather this stuff on your strands, but as long as you rinse well, and rinse it all off, you have nothing to worry about.

Other Benefits Of No ‘Poo:
