How to Create the Best DIY Skin Care Products

After all, it's the first defense against what the world has to throw at you. Be it germs or ultra violet radiation, your skin bears the brunt and protects the rest of the body. Moreover, it's also a huge factor in how people perceive you. As superficial as it may seem, wrinkly skin, age spots and the rest tell people things about you. This could be good – “lived in skin” conveys wisdom and responsibility. Or, more likely, bad – grizzled looking features mean you are not as capable or relevant. And, unfortunately, in a fast paced world, superficial judgments often hold sway. This is why looking after your skin with a regular skin care routine is essential. It will help you stay healthy and it will help you feel youthful. But why spend a fortune on products when you can make your own ? Why not create your own skin care products ? Why not indeed....

Why Create DIY Skin Care Products

Skin care products that come from your home can be safer than products you may buy from a shop, as you know what is going into them. If you know you may be allergic or react badly to a certain substance, you can be sure not to put it in your next pot of night cream. Also, home made products will probably be a lot cheaper. Many skin care products have inflated prices to cover marketing and fancy packaging. You won't have to market your products to yourself ! A combination of cost and knowing that the product is good for you will allow you to pamper your skin that little bit more. After a while, your skin will look and feel better. It will even be healthier. So get into creating your own simple products and as you learn more, you could make even more complex formulations. However, make it a point to choose only products certified organic so that your resulting mixture will be free from pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic chemicals. You have a certain amount of security from knowing that growers of certified organic products have passed review by an independent government or nonprofit organization to ensure that these meet the required standards. Oatmeal Facial Scrub

A gently abrasive material helps to exfoliate surface layer skin cells, leaving your face looking clean and soft. It can also help regenerate new, younger skin cells. Two of the most popular ingredients for homemade skin scrubs are oatmeal and sugar. You could almost call them a classic combination. Make your own simple scrub.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup organic oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup organic brown sugar
  • Enough distilled water to make a thick paste (You can also use Aloe Vera gel to create the paste.)

Instructions:

  1. Apply the paste over dry skin and massage in circular motions with your hands, taking care not to get any paste into your eyes.
  2. Rinse with warm water.

Night Cream

Night creams are among the best DIY skin care products that can come from an ordinary kitchen. Ingredients for night creams can include organic grape seed, almond, jojoba, or coconut oil. These oils are emulsified with scented organic water, rose water, distilled water, or Aloe Vera gel.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of oil (You can use organic grape seed, almond, jojoba or coconut oil individually or in combination.)
  • 1/2 cup of liquid (organic water, rose water, distilled water or Aloe Vera gel)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons beeswax pellets

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil and the beeswax until the wax melts.
  2. Put the liquid in a blender then gradually add the heated oil.
  3. Blend the mixture until it turns white.
  4. Cool the mixture and place in jars.
  5. Apply a thin film to clean dry skin every night, using gentle upward strokes.

Body Lotion

Body lotions are also a simple homemade skin care product. Like the night cream, you will probably find many key ingredients in your kitchen larder or certainly at your local shops. Organic skin lotions are similar to the night cream, except that you need more of the product and the consistency has to be a little different. You will need to add 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup of water to create the consistency of a lotion. To enhance the lotion with a pleasing scent, you can add 10 to 20 drops of an organic essential oil. The most popular floral essences are rose, lavender, or lemon. Add the essential oil to the water. Do not heat it with the other oils.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of oil (You can use organic grape seed, almond, jojoba or coconut oil individually or in combination.)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cup of liquid (organic water, rose water, distilled water, or Aloe Vera gel)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons beeswax pellets

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil and the beeswax until the wax melts.
  2. Mix the liquid with the essence of your choice.
  3. Put the liquid in a blender then gradually add the heated oil.
  4. Blend the mixture until it turns white.
  5. Cool the mixture and place in bottles.
  6. Rub onto skin the way you would use ordinary lotion.
